On March 3rd in 1931, United States President Herbert Hoover officially adopted "The Star-Spangled Banner" as the US national anthem.National anthems became popular in the 19th century, with the first one being Britain’s God Save the Queen/King in 1825. However, some anthems have even more impressive origins: Japan boasts the oldest lyrics, from the 9th century, and the Netherlands the oldest music, from a melody written before 1572.
